Essential Plant Nutrients

Download Essential Plant Nutrients pdf

PRIMARY NUTRIENTS
NITROGEN - N

  • Gives dark-green color to plant
  • Promotes increased stem and leaf growth
  • Feeds soil micro-organisms during their decomposition of low nitrogen organic materials.

PHOPHORUS - P2O4

  • Stimulates early root formation and growth
  • Gives rapid and vigorous start to plants
  • Hastens maturity
  • Stimulates blooming
  • Gives winter hardiness to fall seedings

POTASH (POTASSIUM) - K2O

  • Impacts increased vigor and disease resistance for plants
  • Essential to formation and transfer of startches, sugars and oils
  • Improves quality of plants
  • Helps development of root system

MACRO-NUTRIENTS
CALCIUM - Ca

  • Promotes early root formantion and growth
  • Improves general plant vigor
  • Influences intake of other plant foods
  • Nuetralizes poisons produced in the plant

MAGNESIUM - Mg

  • Is an essential part of chlorophyll
  • Necessary for formation of sugars
  • Regulates uptake of oher plant foods
  • Acts as a carrier of phosphorus in the plant
  • Plays a part in the transformation of starch

SULFUR - S

  • Gives increased root growth
  • Helps maintain dark-green color
  • Encourages more vigorous plant growth

MICRO-NUTRIENTS
IRON - Fe

  • Acts as an oxygen carrier
  • Required for formantion of chlorophyll
  • Aids in prevention of chlorosis

COPPER - Cu

  • Stimulates growth and acts as a catalyst in the plant enzyme system
  • Helps prevent chlorosis (lack of green color)

MANGANESE - Mn

  • Increases availability of calcium, magnesium, and phophorus
  • Promotes soil oxidation
  • Aids in syntesis of chlorophyll and works in photosynthesis

ZINC - Zn

  • Necessary for normal chlorophyll production and growth

MOLYBEDENUM - Mo

  • Is involved in the reduction of nitrates during formation of amino acids

BORON - Bo

  • Associated with calcium utilization within plant

TECHNICAL NOTES ON LAWN CARE FERTILIZERS
Leisure Lawn's granular fertilizers are complete, balanced and contain slow-release nitrogen. Natural fertilizers are also available.

Granular - fertilizers are in pellet form and feed your lawn naturally from the roots up. Complete - all three marco-nutrients (N-P-K) are present in each application. Balanced - the ratio between Nitrogen : Phosphorus - Potassium is as close to optimum as possible for good lawn growth. Slow-release Nitrogen - some of the Nitrogen pellets are coated with sulfur to delay their release for up to six weeks, giving a more even green color. Nitrogen improves lawn color and condition and is needed most by your lawn. Phosphorus improves rooting and is necessary for improved photosynthesis. We are using low rates of Phosphorus to reduce potential leaching into lakes and streams. Potassium strengthens cell walls and improves lawn wear resistance and temperature hardiness. Iron is added to our fertilizer to increase the rate of greening after an application and improve photosynthesis. Natural and Organic means all of the ingredients are derived from natural sources. Our natural organic fertilizer contains no manure or sewage sludges. The natural ingredients found in our organic fertilizer are animal proteins such as feather, bone, meat, fish, poultry and blood meals. These are the same quality ingredients used by gardening enthusiasts for years.
